And where exactly is the harm here? The kid made a map of a familiar location. Do you know the skill it takes to make a BUILDING in a 3D modeler? He should be sent to MIT, not 'alternative' school.

I think the issue is that
I think the issue is that the student had created a video game depicting people shooting other people with his school as the backdrop which is more frightening than you creating and using maps for biking/hiking/camping/driving around and possessing a hammer that you have a legitimate use for. Three of the four articles also point out that it was a understandably a knee-jerk reaction out of fear from Virginia Tech and is subsequently being reviewed for exactly that reason.
