We have a winner

And the category is: most ridiculously easy home repair thus far.

Background: The place I'm in is the lower two floors of a 4-story house.  My room is on the basement level.  The phone jacks on the ground floor all work, but the ones down here did not.  Bell's quote for the diagnostic and repair: starting at $110.

Armed with: One each screwdriver, wire cutter, needlenosed pliers.

Walked out the the box on the outside of the house from the phone company.  Took out screw on cover.  Opened box.  Looked at wires.  Huh.  The one for the basement was never connected when the wiring was done.  Stripped red and green wire and attached in proper place.  My phone line works now.  Wow...
